Corrective Exercise
Corrective Exercise is a systematic approach used by qualified fitness professionals to help clients move and feel better by identifying and addressing the root cause of movement issues.
The goal of this integrated approach is to optimize your movement quality. By doing so, you can…
Avoid Pain
Maximize Workout Results
Reduce Injury Risk
Development Of Movement Dysfunction
Many movement issues develop from the ways in which we go about our typical daily activities- like sitting at a desk, looking down at our phones, standing with poor posture, or even wearing high-heeled shoes. Holding your body in these positions, over time, leads to alterations in the way that your muscles function, including tightness in some areas and lack of activation in other areas. These alterations persist, causing your body to seek compensations in order to move in the way that it needs to. These compensations then lead to daily pain or discomfort, and make it harder to move correctly during workouts.
For example, someone who works at a computer and spends a great deal of time sitting might develop tight hips, a forward head posture, and a slouched or rounded forward shoulder posture. Over time, this person’s glutes and core become weaker, and their upper back becomes tense or tightened. Cue the back and neck pain! Then, when this person goes to squat in the gym, they may compensate by leaning too far forward, arching their back, or letting their knees cave inward, increasing the risk of knee or lower back injuries and reducing the effectiveness of the squat.
Through a safe and gradual approach, corrective exercise addresses these types of issues. Over time, this helps you move more comfortably and with better control. By improving how the body moves, Corrective Exercise not only reduces aches and pains, but also leads to safer everyday activities and more effective workouts.
